Back in July, we talked about an upcoming mobile RPG being developed by the original creator of the ever-popular Final Fantasy series. The game was called Terra Battle, and if you happened to peek at the app stores some time in the past couple of days, you’ll see that it has been released! So far, the game is off to a really great start, having already achieved over 500,000 downloads. It is available for free a free download (although, be ready for some IAP emphasis) on both iOS and Android platforms.
As always, we’ve got the official trailer for you right here:
The game is not an RPG in the traditional US sense, but rather puts an emphasis on tactics instead of just basic RPG combat. If you’ve played a JRPG before, you’ll be able to pick this up easily — and I assume most who are really excited about this game, have been down this road before. Nevertheless, it’s still a very well put together game by a reputable developer, and definitely worth a download even if you’re unfamiliar with the specific genre.
One of the more interesting aspects about Terra Battle, is how the updates are going to be released. MISTWALKER is the actual developer company name, and they plan to release updates based on how many downloads the game has received. We said it had reached 500,000 downloads above, and with that milestone, new characters will be added to the game. There is another update unlocked with every 100,000 downloads up to 1.5 million, and then a final milestone at 2 million downloads, which would “start development on a console version of Terra Battle”. You can see the full list of milestones on the Terra Battle website right here.
It is a free to play game, and so far there have been reports from players and reviewers that the IAP structure is a bit too frustrating at times. The game itself is great, but just suffers from the same thing that most big name free to play games all suffer from. We’ll let you know more in our full review of Terra Battle, coming soon. In the mean time, let us know what you think of the new game from MISTWALKER, and if it lives up to all the hype!
