It was just three weeks ago we found out that a third installment to the Five Nights at Freddy’s series was already in development, and now, we’ve got a teaser trailer. Although it doesn’t shed too much light on new mechanics, the security room, or anything else really, it lets us know that development is definitely moving along. You can check it out below:
Considering the release of the first sequel came not too long after it’s trailer, we can only assume that the release of FNAF3 is right around the corner — which is kind of crazy, when you remember the first game was released less than six months ago. Personally, I assumed the hype would start to die off after the second game was released so quickly and wasn’t really a huge change from the first. That however, is clearly not the case, since the one minute and five second teaser has already amassed over 4.5 million YouTube views in just three days.
Still, you have to wonder how long the developer, Scott Cawthon, can continue to ride the success of his massively popular mobile horror game franchise. I’d be surprised if this third installment gets as many downloads as the previous ones, but it clearly doesn’t take a whole lot to produce these games if he can pump three of them out in half of a year. Even if they are only getting 10’s of thousands of downloads, that’s still a very worthwhile time investment for the developer.
My prediction is that the download count will quickly drop off if the sequels continue this frequently, but could easily reach a steady point that will still be profitable. Let us know what you think the future holds for Five Nights at Freddy’s by voicing your opinion in the comments section below!
