iTransmission 4, A BitTorrent App For iOS 7 (Jailbreak)

The Jailbreak BitTorrent App, iTransmission returns with a update for iOS 7

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that if you search for a BitTorrent app on Apple’s app store, that you’re not going to find one. Apple imposes some very strict policies on what is and what is not allowed on the App Store, so the chances of ever seeing a BitTorrent app on the App Store is probably slim to none. The good news, at least for jailbreakers, is that Cydia doesn’t have such restrictions. iTransmission 4 is a app found on Cydia under the BigBoss repo that allows iOS users to open and download Torrent files straight from their device. The newest version of the app works with iOS 7 and devices with the ARM-64 processors.

Unlike Android devices, which host several native BitTorrent clients on the Google Play Store, iTransimission is currently the only native BitTorrent client available on iOS. There are other ways of controlling BitTorrent files like certain Web-based services and remote apps, but thankfully there really isn’t any need for those as iTransmission proves to offer the same functionality as a desktop BitTorrent client.

iTransmission has been around for quite awhile now and has served many BitTorrent users through many of the jailbreaks, and this newest update to version 4 continues to improve on previous entries. The entire UI has been revamped to better suit iOS 7, eliminating clutter and simplifying the app has made it even easier to use than before.  That’s not to say that iTransmission 4 doesn’t offer a good array of settings though, you’ll still see the regular BitTorrent preferences available like port listening, max connections, as well as download and upload speed limits.

iTransmission 4 remains to keep things light-weight, saving system resources, and increasing ease of use. It may be a ways off from competing with the most popular BitTorrent clients like uTorrent or BitLord, but at least it has the iOS market locked-down as it is currently your only option for a BitTorrent client on the iOS platform. So if you’ve been looking for a way to consume a bit more of your data plan and are need of a BitTorrent app for your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, then give iTransmission a try.

iTransmission 4 is free to download and use from Cydia on the BigBoss repository.
